Numerologists frequently use a person's birth name to determine their number.

Numerology is the belief in an occult, divine, or mystical connection between a number and one or more congruent occurrences. It is also the study of the numerical value of letters in words and names using an alphanumeric system. Onomancy is a type of numerology that is applied to a person's name.

According to numerology theory, each number has a unique vibration that gives it special attributes. These characteristics can shed insight on a person's behavior or determine whether two people are compatible romantically.

A person's lucky number or angel number can be determined via numerological charts analysis. These recurrent numbers reveal information about how the world operates or the importance of persons and events. Many numerologists believe that nothing happens by chance — everything happens because of numbers.

The numerologist selects the appropriate numbers from the chart and adds them together to establish a person's birthday number. If the result has two or more digits, the numerologist will add them together, repeating the process until a single digit is obtained.

Many numerologists use charts or diagrams to study the relationships between numbers and letters. These diagrams, which mimic astrological charts, can add levels of meaning to a numerological reading. However, whether a numerologist applies a simple or complicated algorithm to figure out the results, the conclusion of analysis will frequently sound similar to a zodiac.
